Roast Level

All Top Java coffees are roasted to order, allowing maximum flexibility and customization based on your personal taste.  Each of our single origin coffees and signature blends are rigorously tested to develop a repeatable "Recommended Roast" which is identified on the product page and highlighted in the "Roast Level" drop down with an asterisk *.  Because individual tastes can vary, we have created the ability for our customers to select their preferred roast level for all of our single origin coffees.  For those who prefer a lighter or a darker, bolder roast, we've got you covered.

Light Roast

  • Light brown in color

  • No oil on the surface

  • Flavor profile for origin of each bean is most distinct

  • More acidic

Medium Roast

  • Medium brown color

  • Origin flavor tones still present

  • Slightly sweeter than light roast

  • Balanced flavor, aroma and acidity

Medium-Dark Roast

  • Richer, darker brown in color

  • Carmelization continues and brings out butter, caramel and light chocolate tones

  • Roasting process flavors emerge and acidity diminishes

  • Light sheen develops on the outside of the beans

Dark Roast

  • Shiny black color with an oily surface

  • Bitterness is more pronounced

  • Origin flavor nuances give way to a dominant "roasted" flavor and aftertaste
